Field trips are an important part of the academic experience at Chelsea, as they enable teachers to broaden their students’ experience and build on lessons covered in class.
Students regularly attend plays, such as Macbeth and Julius Caesar, at the American Shakespeare Center in Staunton; view the exhibitions at the National Gallery of Art, the Smithsonian, and other museums and sites in Washington, D.C.; walk Civil War battlefields, including Gettysburg and Antietam; visit the Franciscan Monastery and the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception; and challenge themselves on a ropes course.

Experimental Farm and State Arboretum, the Alliance Française, Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello and “academical village” at the University of Virginia, the National Museum of the Marine Corps, the Ben Lomond Historic Site in Manassas, the Udvar-Hazy National Air and Space Museum, Skyline Drive, a Virginia forensics lab, and the National Zoo.
