E3s Return to Chelsea Academy: Exploration, Expedition & Enrichment

March 13, 2026
By

Chelsea Academy recently wrapped up its beloved E3 experiences — two days of purposeful, teacher-led adventures spanning the Lower School, Middle School, and Upper School. Far more than a welcome break from routine, these excursions are living, breathing moments of transformation, where young hearts and minds are renewed in ways that textbooks alone could never achieve.

In an ever-changing and increasingly hurried world, the return of E3s was a deliberate act of restoring harmony and balance to the academic schedule — giving students the gift of time to wonder, to reflect, and to encounter beauty. Drawing deeply from Chelsea Academy’s authentic Catholic liberal arts mission, E3 is dedicated to forming the whole person:

  • Exploration invites students to discover new facets of God’s creation, awakening wonder at His handiwork — “When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars which you have established; what is man that you are mindful of him?” (Psalm 8:3–4).
  • Expedition calls students to embrace challenge, teamwork, and perseverance, echoing the pilgrim spirit of faith: “Blessed are those whose strength is in you, who set their hearts on pilgrimage” (Psalm 84:5).
  • Enrichment weaves together reflection, prayer, and interdisciplinary depth — transforming experience into lasting insight and fostering virtue, stronger community bonds, and a clearer sense of vocation.

Tapping into the distinctive talents and passions of our dedicated faculty, these tailored adventures take learning beyond the classroom walls, offering unhurried encounters with beauty, opportunities to live Catholic virtues in real situations, and a joyful deepening of personal faith.  Students across all three schools chose from a rich menu of teacher-led experiences:

  • Radio Astronomer for a Day — Mr. Foster
  • Explore Far East India — Dr. Shanahan
  • The Conservative Movement in America — Mr. Doak
  • Clothed in Beauty — Ms. Dugas
  • Charcuterie Workshop and Event Planning — Mrs. Klassen
  • Vintage & Vanilla — Mrs. Temple
  • Sportswriting and the 1-3-1 Essay — Mr. Thomas
  • An Adventure in Spelunking — Dr. Sladky

At their heart, E3s are a reminder of what true Catholic education is meant to be — not the mere transmission of knowledge, but the formation of souls who can see God’s fingerprints in creation, in community, and in themselves. By stepping into the adventure of becoming who God created them to be, our students take another step toward becoming the next generation of balanced, resilient saints, scholars, and servant leaders — and that is something worth celebrating.
